Accountable, Together:
a child rights symposium

18 November 2025
Melbourne

What if Australia led the world in upholding child rights? What if every system, service and policy that impacted children and young people was built around their own voices, views, ideas and rights?

This November, we’re bringing together the changemakers, the bold thinkers, and the everyday doers who believe in a better world for children and young people in Australia - and are ready to help build it.

Accountable, Together is a one-day symposium hosted by 54 reasons and the Australian Centre for Child Rights, in partnership with the Melbourne Law School Human Rights Program and UNICEF Australia. This first-of-its-kind event is a space to spark ideas, challenge systems, and co-create a roadmap for real change.

Youth representation and participation

We recognise that it’s really adults who we most need to inform, educate, influence and inspire to uphold children’s rights - and that's why adults are our main audience for this event. But we're also big champions of Article 12 - the right to participation! So we're warmly welcoming expressions of interest from young people under 25, especially youth representatives and advisors from participating organisations.

We also recognise that the experiences and expertise of 'older' young people (aged 18–25) are distinct from those under 18 -both are valuable, and we’re committed to making sure diverse youth voices are heard, respected and centred in the event.

Children and young people’s voices will be woven throughout the day, including audio reflections from 54 reasons' Young Advisors - whose views and priorities have also shaped the event itself - and creative contributions from youth-led partners.
