Settlement services

From arrival to belonging

Our settlement programs help children and families new to Australia feel safe, included and informed—so they can build strong futures from day one.

What to expect from us

Children are centred, not just included

We recognise children as migrants and refugees in their own right. Our programs are designed with their needs, rights and voices at the centre – not as an add-on to adult services.

Flexible and personalised

The settlement journey is different for every family. We support families as they navigate new systems, cultures and communities – offering practical help, emotional support and space to build confidence over time.

A whole-family approach

Settlement is a shared journey. We help families with everyday essentials—like housing, education and health—while supporting children to play, learn and connect.

Best of global and local

As part of Save the Children’s global movement, we bring international knowledge of refugee and migrant experiences, backed by decades of work in humanitarian settings.

When you come to a new country… it’s very hard life. [It Takes a Village] is very good for a new life, for the people, the toys, the language… it’s beautiful.

Making rights real in a new home

Our settlement services help children and young people to realise their rights, especially:
22
Article 22
Children and young people who are refugees or asylum seekers in a new country have the same rights as the children who were born in that country. They also have special protections as a refugee.
28
Article 28
Education is a right, not a privilege. Primary education must be free and available to all children. Secondary and higher education (like TAFE or uni) must be accessible.
39
Article 39
Children and young people must be supported to recover, if difficult things happen to them - such as abuse, neglect or conflict.
