Youth services

Meeting young people where they are

We support young people to feel safe, connected and hopeful – especially when life gets complicated.

What to expect from us

Young people lead the way

We centre youth voice in everything we do. Whether it’s goal setting, service design or day-to-day decisions, young people shape the support they receive.

Rights are non-negotiable

Every young person has the right to safety, identity, participation and connection. We work to make those rights real – especially for those facing homelessness, exclusion or systemic disadvantage.

Culturally safe services

We respect and respond to children, young people and families’ cultural identities and connections – especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, whose rights are often at greater risk due to systemic racism and the ongoing effects of colonisation.

Part of something bigger

As part of Save the Children’s global network, we bring international expertise in child rights and youth justice to local practice. Our work is informed by decades of advocacy and frontline experience.

Sometimes I get a really bad attitude.... I can get a bit emotional and angry. And [my 54 reasons worker] helps me with attitude, like talking about respect and gratitude.

Making rights real for young people

Youth services help young people to realise their rights, especially:

Article 12
Every child has the right to express their views on matters that affect them, and to have those views taken seriously.
20
Article 20
Children who can't live with their own families deserve good care that keeps them safe and respects their culture and identity.
27
Article 27
Children must have food, shelter, clothing and safety. Parents should provide this if they can - and governments should support families who are struggling.
