Wendy Hall is a Child Development Specialist with 54 reasons, working across three schools in Hobart, Tasmania as part of the Cool For School program. Her path to this work was a personal one – it began when her own son participated in a program, and she discovered something she hadn't expected.
“I noticed I just loved being around kids, and I loved to help kids,” Wendy says. “I got the job here, and I've loved every moment of it.”
Wendy remembers her first day on the job like it was yesterday:
“I had this child who was in front of me and knowing that this child had already been through so much in their life and for me to be able to just put a smile on their face was just the biggest thing for me for that day,” she says. “This child who came in sad, anxious and a bit worried about what was going on... to all of a sudden be able to have a smile on their face and start talking to me … this is what I love and this is what I want to keep doing.”
“My job is amazing. It's fun. It's safe. I learn lots of things. I can build and know that I am worthwhile, that I matter.”
