Young people aged 8-18 who are disengaged from education or who face other complexities.

About the program

Our Mobile Youth Outreach program in Wagga Wagga is working to reduce the number of young people – especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people – caught in avoidable short-term remand through targeted, culturally relevant outreach and services.

Our Youth Workers engage young people who are at risk of disengaging from school or interacting with the justice system. We meet them where they are in the community, providing a range of activities in a group setting to build trust and get to know their individual situation. These activities are tailored to the interests and needs of young people in each local community and are designed to build rapport and trust.

Each session provides opportunities for young people to be actively connected with specialist services they may not otherwise access such as Headspace, schools, local Councils, local job networks, disability support services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.

This program includes

Mobile Youth Outreach supports young people through:
Assertive outreach and early intervention for at-risk young people via Mobile Youth Van
Youth-led arts, digital and recreational group activities in a safe space, with a Youth Specialist providing mentoring in practical skills and education on the young person’s rights and responsibilities
Individualised case support for young people and their families by Family Support Specialist, including advice, information and referrals to specialist services as required
Having compassion for a young person in trouble can make a world of difference. I was raised in communities like this, and I believe in change.
