Who is this program for

Strength2Strength is targeted at young men and boys from migrant and refugee backgrounds who have been identified as being at higher risk of engaging in the use of violence.

About the program

Strength2Strength partners with schools, community leaders and cultural groups to deliver workshops to young men and boys aimed at shifting attitudes and behaviours around the use of violence.

We know that 1 in 3 migrant and refugee women in Australia reported to have experienced domestic and family violence. This violence is often hidden or unreported because talking about family violence - and in particular sexual violence - is considered a taboo in some communities.

Strength2Strength engages cultural community leaders, groups and services to identify participants who are considered at risk and to tailor workshop content to the specific issues experienced by the target community group.

This program includes

We provide weekly structured sessions across two tiers of the community:
Group discussions with local men and leaders from CALD backgrounds exploring healthy family relationships and role modelling. The goal is to increase knowledge and understanding of healthy attitudes towards women, manhood and masculinity and encourage leadership to help shift attitudes in their respective communities.
After-school program for boys aged 11-16 involving healthy relationships workshops, sporting, and recreational activities. Activities provide opportunities to reflect in a safe environment, test boundaries, work in teams and learn new skills through discussion and role play.
School-based workshops focusing on gender equality and respectful relationships for young people from culturally diverse backgrounds. Workshops cover topics such as intimate relationships, manhood and masculinity, gender inequality and the treatment of women and girls.
